RLHAR

Mmm, might just be me but if I was shipping a hairless baby anything (kitten or puppy) in the middle of winter and bitter cold temps I think I'd have looked into paying the extra money to have the animal in the cabin with me as a piece of carry on luggage.

RLHAR- my thoughts exactly! The airline should have known better and I would think the breeder would have warned her, too. Very, very sad, what a horrible way to die.

I'd also include the Veterinarian, as in weather that cold they are required to provide a statement that the animal is aclimated to low temperatures and will be fine.   There's plenty of blame to throw around on this.. the owner, the breeder... the Airline... the Vet...  it has been bitter cold here in Ct for the past week (PM temps below zero and highs in single digits) there sould have been a block on shipping live animals durring that spell.  A nusence for breeders and buyers, but SO MUCH better for the animals.

I agree with RLHAR.
When I went to pick up my GSD puppy, not hairless,
I made sure to bring him on as carry-on.

With carry-on being $75 cheaper than cargo, and all the horror stories you hear, the choice was a no brainer.

most GSD puppies are already too big at 8 weeks old to fit in the required carry-on bags, so there isn't a choice in that case - I have never personally had a problem shipping puppies or dogs via Delta - in fact just picked up a dog (adult) tuesday flown from CA to PA via Delta.  But that is far different than shipping a HAIRLESS kitten, which certainly would have been able to be carried on at 3 lbs.  What a shame.

Some airlines have larger stowage under the seats than most.
My pudgy puppy fit wonderfully for take off and landing and he had a seat for the reminder of the way.

What Molly said is true; my 8 week old pups are sometimes15lbs or more...no way they're going under the seat. I have never had good luck w/Delta, and I've only used them out of desperation. From now on, it's Continental or PetAirways, or you can come get the little monster yourself;-)

the vet she took him to is MY vet, caroline flowers, I'm sure she did as much as she could to save the poor thing;(
