OK everyone I would like to know what you think of these!  This is a 3 year old dog who was x-rayed because he came up lame one day and was crying in pain. No other x-rays have ever been taken before this time. He was put on remidel and is doing better.
Just so no one is mislead on this they have not been sent to OFA or anything like that.
But i have a customer in tears so lets start with that.

They look pretty good to me!

Not bad to me, but I'd like to see the x-ray with the dog in a straighter, more aligned position.  He's not real straight on the table.

I have this dogs sister here with me she is HD- a normal .. I talked with the vet and she said this dog clearly has HD and there is flatening to the heads.. To me the pelvis looks titled and and the dog is not strait. My vet would never give me x-rays that looked like this and think that was good enough. So i was not pleased with these to say the least.  However i wanted to know what others see that maybe I am missing.

Besides the bad positioning etc... I would say this dog has Fast-normal hips. I doubt he is limping from this but I'm no vet.

Bad positioning....I would re-take if you are sending for evaluation.  Hips don't look bad...OFA fair...possibly good with better positioning.

I don't think the dogs pain is from the hips.

The owner of the dog is just sad because he thinks the dog has bad hips because that is what the vet is telling him. It sounded to me like maybe because they got snow where he lives maybe the dog fell down the stairs and got a sprain or maybe  bruised. He does not know. He just said the dog came up lame one day and took him to the vet and they put him out and x-rayed him per my recommendation. He was screaming out in pain. I talked with the vet who said there was flattening to the head ? Not what i was seeing. So i was wondering what others though because i don't want to be a total jerk and say his x-rays were don't wrong unless others agree with this.
Thanks for all the responses so far

Even with the crooked positioning, I think these x-rays would still get an OFA fair if not a good.  The socket to our viewing left appears a little shallow but certainly not dysplastic looking.  I would tell your client to get a second opinion.

Positioning is BAD.  The left hip looks pretty good.  The right hip does is not seated enough in the socket to get a passing rating - combined with a thickened neck, this dog is not passing and would be considered "dysplastic".  However, IMO not bad enough to cause acute lameness - I would suspect the dog pulled a muscle or something.

sorry guys on all the bad positioning comments but we can all still see well what is and what is not.

I concur with Molly on the right side and on a 3 year old dog, this xray showing no other changes in the joint with ossifications, I highly doubt that this is the cause of the lameness.

good luck
