See this story. Though the councilman is blind to what causes problem with dogs, this kind of behavior does not help the dogs or the breed itself. Police have the emails and will find who wrote them and hopefully prosecute where appropriate.

"DENVER - Police are stepping up patrols around a Denver city councilman's home after he was threatened because of his stance against pit bull dogs."

Ohhhhhh, great.  Let's really make a great impression of Pit Bull owners.

This is just like the wackjobs who kill abortionists thinking they're making a statement for pro-life.

sadly, the people bringing about the bans will never alter their behavior. When pits are banned, they will just switch to another breed for fighting, intimidation and guarding drug houses.

I watched one of the rescue shows on t.v. and they said 250,000 dogs are killed or injured every year in the U.S. from fighting. This is mind boggling to me.

Of the pits it showed being rescued, only a couple were aggressive towards people. The majority seemed very easy to handle, even though many were badly scarred from fighting. Most were put down because of the danger to other animals resulting from their training.

Elected officials are taking the path of least resistance, ban the dogs and ignore the root cause.

I don't agree with breed bands but I do agree with increase sentences and  prosecution of dog fighting. I know  and know of quite a few  people who formerly participated in the horrific venue of dog fighting who now use thier  same dogs and line of dogs in weight pull, hog hunting, and other venues. These same dogs are able to excell and out compete many of the other breeds that historiclally dominated the sport. Increased prosecution and greater consequences scared many of these people to different venues.  their mindsets didn't change but their actions did.

I disagree with Rik, people who are already doing illegal activities will not stop because of a new law being put in place.  Breed bands hurt the responsible people who abide by the law, not the law breakers. I do agree that the increase of dog fighting in the inner city and drug dealing community is what has brought so much attention to pits in the last 10-15 years. But please don't believe that pits fighting is just a  sport. amongst minorities, innercity, or drug dealers.  Some of the most recognized names of game lines come from just the opposite environments. You never hear about game roosters because it is still a rural activity, but still just as horrific. And yes many of our former presidents participated but that doesn't make it any less horrific.

I don't agree with killing he dogs, but I do know when many of these dogs get confiscated a lot of corrupt things happen. These dogs should be sent away from the city or area where they were confiscated and adopted out. If these dogs are not sent away from the area there is a true threat of them being stollen or obtained by the same individuals that were fighing them in the first place.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Pit Bulls and a good number of the meat heads that own them. However, this is just another example of government taking the easy road and not making people accountable for their actions.

There's the cutiest little pit bull puppy in my OB class. Maybe 6 or 7 months old. Every time another dog gets close to her, she attacks.  Her owner is so frustrated becasue the pup doesn't give a warning it just explodes into agression.

It grabbed the butt of a minpin and wouldn't let go. If this is even close to typical for pit bulls, I don't like them at all!

SitasMom....I wouldn't say that all pit bulls are like that.  I think we see actions like that and think many are but then we don't know the dogs history as well as the breeding.
Many of these pit bulls have BYB and these folks have no clue what they are doing and in turn produce unstable pups.
