What are the pros and cons of having Alk in your pedigree?

by Vermont Lady on 21 January 2011 - 19:01

You might email Mike Diehl - he owned and trained Alk.

Where he was placed in your pedigree and how many generations back is relevant.  He'd be back aways I'd think.

What I know is he was a big blocky dog typical of DDR dogs - a very REAL dog - strong - serious - and a bit of a knucklehead I think.  Working him I overheard was like being a liontramer <g>. DOminant dog.
His pigmentation and H/E was superb - helthy, strong robust dog. Gorgeous animal but a bit heavy for my personal taste.
I woud think he'd be good to bring back in some tough, offense to a pedigree that might be loosing sight of this.

Alex you must be thinking of the wrong dog, I don't remember GREG telling me all of that stuff about Alk like that.  Greg is on this board as well.

I was on the world team with Gregg Mominee and also Mike Diel. Mike Diel never owned or trained Alk. Alk was a wonderful dog to work. He was the son of Lord. Why wouldn't you want him in your pedigree?

Alk was a great dog. A smallish male, stocky, very strong dog in the work, absolutely sound temperament. The strength of his progeny depended somewhat on the strength of the bitches brought to him.

Greg Mominee is on this board sometimes, you should see what he says.

He was a good trained dog NOT at all a real strong dog nor did he produce strong dogs from the ones I have seen from him. Gregg's long haired dog  Orthos i think he was from Tiekerhook Kennel a long haired dog but super high drive , from what i saw of the 2 dogs he was by far the better dog. Greg won a lot with him as well. Greg did a great job with both dogs . He had good helpers in his area Greg is a very good handler.  He bred that Alk dog so so many times only Orthos a few.

As far as the initial question asked - I totally agree with blackhorngsd. Alk was a great dog himself, but his progeny did depend on the strength of the bitches he bred. The particular bitch bred to Alk in a pedigree would show the pros or cons of that pedigree.

You should ask Greg Mominee.
