LadyFrost

Bailey my 9.5 month old staying in the house during  nights...when she sleeps on her right side and when she gets up she barely stands on her right hind leg..she may even limp a little to steady herself...once she stretches and grunts a bit she is good to go...she runs fast, she is full of energy, great at 5-7 hour hikes, anytime you just throw the ball off she goes...it just seems she has issues with her leg only after laying on it for a while...and its only on that side...I would think that if she had hip issues she would be limping at all times not just after laying down....

any ideas? could it be just growing teenager issues? I know my male grunted a lot when he was under 1 year old when he would get up he would stretch and take careful steps I dragged his butt to vet for x-rays, placed hot water bottle, I was worried sick he turned out just fine, no hip issues, no muscle issues..absolutely nothing....seems like its around that time again and I am back to worrying about this one now and I would hate to drag her to the vet..spend $...just to see her grow out of it...

I just want to compare notes with anyone who has a 9-12 month old also..see if this is typical for this age...
Thanks

The fact that this is not bilateral suggests something going on. Could she have injured a ligament or muscle at some time during the past? If so, she needs to rest it, and stretching and warming up before activity is the thing to try to allow her to do. I don't know if I would allow her to run if she is acting like she has an injury that hopefully is healing.

It is unlikely to be pano as she would demonstrate a pretty consistent sign of discomfort, at least for short periods of time.

It probably isn't any big deal, but I would be careful with her for now just to make sure she does not end up injuring something. Hopefully in a week or two this will resolve. If it does not, a check with a good vet might be in order.

Thanks Hoodie...it is possible she may have injured it...about 2  months ago we added brick steps to the hill on the side of the house...it did altered their running after the ball route however i would have thought the limp would have been consistent even during run/walk time...I will keep an eye on it...

Thanks again....

       LadyFrost,,

The Great Dane I have mentioned on my threads use to do that when we first adopted her. She would get up from a nap and and hobble around for a few minutes like her legs had fallen asleep...She was just under a year old then. She grew out of it and has never had any issues with her hips ..Good luck...
