Well Lyda (the little stinker)  stole a piece of watermelon from the table tonight while i was helping the boys.  Anything to worry about?  I know grapes and chocolate and onions but watermelon?

Thank You

 Rooka,

"As you know, watermelon is definitely considered to be edible by humans, and there is currently no data demonstrating that the edible portion, seeds and rind have potential to produce effects beyond minor gastrointestinal irritation to pets."

Look at the second page. It appears that a piece isn't going to be a big deal.

My guys love water melon! No side effects either.

Just watch that your dog cannot sneak off with stuff. Some things, as you know, could be a different story. So you have to prevent it.

As an aside, about the worst thing one of my dogs ever tried to sneak off with was a 30 lb ham that a friend's house cook had just removed from the oven about 60 minutes before I arrived (the dog came with me). We were all talking when the cook in the kitchen started yelling "No, Solomon, no, no, no......" On that Easter we went out and ate at a restaurant.....but the dog did not get the ham....too much fat in such a large piece of meat.

LOL.

Good luck.

My Mauli is a fresh fruit nut.  She loves watermelon and cantelope.  I give her little pieces in the summer when I am having it and she has never had a problem.  Never the seeds or the rind tho.

This is the first time she has snuck any food from table or counter or whatever.  What a crack-up.  She passed on the PBJ sandwiches and pretzels and took the watermelon...what a kook...lol

My Carl tells me stories about the dogs on his parents huge farm in Florida during his youth...he & his siblings would often find the family dogs (hunting dogs) tearing up watermelons still on the vine, boring holes in them to get the sweet cool wet insides on hot summer days! No harm ever came of eating the watermelons, except from the trouble the kids would give them for stealing their treat! jackie harris
