Don Corleone

by Don Corleone on 20 January 2011 - 05:01

I have time on my hands. I have a puppy that I have, but it doesn't take up all my time. He could do the BH at 7 months and learned the articles at 6. I was thinking that maybe I should take on some clients for SchH. Maybe like 1 or 2 dogs to do the foundation and beyond. What do you guys think? I love working with puppies and young dogs. I just thought I could put my time to use. I wouldn't mind working a few more dogs. I just don't know if I should buy my own or train someone else's dog.

I have my own. That's why I'm thinking of my spare time outside of him.

I think you should do both (if you have the energy) not just the time. The satisfaction of one, yours and the satisfaction that you trained, assisted or contributed to the molding of the others....... especially if they do great things. Also, you can put up photos of the training sessions. Where you located?

In my kitchen, in the midwest.

There are ocassional people that look for someone to put a title on a dog - in a few months.
There are people looking for help training but don't want to give up or trust the pup to someone else.
If you had titled a bunch of dogs and were well known in your area, it would be a plus.
Would you give your pup to someone like you?
Sorry about the wording in the last question but what would you look for if you were looking for a trainer?
Price? Referrals? Reputation?

No, I understand what you are saying. I wouldn't send my pup to just anyone, either. I wasn't looking to advertise any services, just thinking out loud.

Didn't know if you were serious or joking. First block you said you owned a pup and then ended the block by saying you didn't know if you should by one? Then the 2nd poster said to buy your own, then you stated you had one? For you, I would do both.

Usually, a well trained upbeat dog or pup speaks for itself.
Example - take your pup to a club and show what it can do.
I can tell if it is a good trainer when I see his or her dog.

Alboe, I meant that I didn't know if I wanted to own two young dogs at once. Meaning that I would have two dogs owned by me at similar ages. I have an excellent pup that is mine. My only thought was to train someone elses or buy one, train it and sell it. I have no need for two dogs of my own.
