Can any one help? - Page 1

My friends desided to import a male from Germany, does anyone know what needs to be done by them here in the states to pick up the dog on the Airport, I heard there are many new changes then 2 years ago.

What is the arrival airport and what airline is the dog coming on? The shipper will have made all arrangements for transport. Your friend will have to wait for the dog to be taken off the plane and will have to pay a pickup fee, generally something like $30 or so. It is VERY important to find out what airport and time of arrival. Also, depending on whether it is a direct flight, or the dog has to clear customs in an airport like Atlanta can make a huge difference. Also, Customs officers do NOT work around the clock at even large international airports like Denver, so it is best to make arrangements for the dog to arrive, if at all possible, at a time when one is on duty, or the dog has cleared customs in another city before the final destination. If the dog has NOT cleared customs and no officer is available, the dog will be boarded overnight until it can clear customs. One always prefers that this not happen as it exposes the dog to disease and increases the chance for a dog to be lost.

Provide more information and then, hopefully someone can give you more specifics which you can then pass onto your friend. If they stay on top of this, hopefully it will all go very smoothly.
