Ok, with the expectation of my first US-born litter I finally found a kennel name that is easy, in german (of course!) and checked out to not being taken anywhere yet (even on the long FCI list). But how do I go about registering it? Checked out the AKC website and their requirements are absurd in my eyes. FCI wont work as USA is not a member. Any ideas and how to's for me please?

I don't think USA or WDA are FCI sanctioned, or at least they were not when I was still involved in schutzhund. That could have changed. So depending on which club you choose to go with just check with that club and make sure you are not looking at using someones kennel name.

In order to have a "registered kennel" name, you must go through AKC. And that means you must meet their absurd conditions, including breeding multiple litters each year. So just make up your kennel name and for now, forget registering it. You can register as well with USA, but it means nothing and it too will cost you money, but I don't think they have requirements to breed a lot of litters per year.

rbud...thanks for your response. I am an USA member. As to why a german name... I am german and my dogs are direct descendants of SV registered dogs. So basically I like to carry on a tradition.

I didn't bother once I saw what the AKC wants to do so. I figure if someone comes up w/my name, then I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. It wasn't taken anywhere I could find, and I looked A LOT, and so far, so good. I don't breed enough to make it a huge concern in my eyes. I had a German help me to make sure it made sense in German;-)
