http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/01/11/rescued-pit-bulls-on-road-to-recovery/

Here in Chicago a dogfight was broken up last week, and 2 of the Pits were recovered.  The article says the shelter "works with different agencies that strictly rehabilitate fight dogs." Estrada says both puppies were born to be companion animals. “One was trained to be that one, the other one was trained to strictly fight,” Estrada said. “That’s the sad part. The dog’s demeanor is that way because someone taught him that.”

One of the the Pits with injuries will be available for adoption as soon as next week, the other one is animal-aggressive and will need work.  What agencies strictly rehabilitate fighting dogs and I wonder what the liabilities are in that.  Thoughts?  Where is Diane J... I'd like to hear her opinion.

Not sure why a fighting dog would need to be "rehabilitated." Fighting is an inborn desire, having absolutely nothing to do with aggression toward humans. I can't imagine what special needs these so-called "protective" agencies have projected onto these dogs. What 9/10 of them need is nothing more than a loving home with an owner who has a drop of common sense.

I think it's far more dangerous to adopt out a supposedly "rehabilitated" dog to an unsuspecting owner who might actually believe you can take the desire to fight out of that dog, OR, to adopt out a DA dog who the adopter believes the same of.

One of my GSDs and one of my Pits got into it a few weeks ago. I wonder if they now need rehabilitation? LOL

On second thought, I'm thinking of the temperaments of properly gamebred dogs, who are most assuredly not the types recovered, so nevermind....yes, I bet with the kind of lives they led prior to this incident, they may well need more than what I mentioned above. Very sad.

fighting dogs are not mean?

while they are not human aggresive
they are damn sure mean.

I don't think they are "mean." Mean is pushing an old lady down the stairs, calling someone fat, etc. etc.

Aggressive is a better word. Not human aggressive, but aggressive nonetheless.

Buckeye, I might be able to dig something up. I'll post in a few mins.
