How do I go about registering a dog in the database when the parents are unknown? I've tried to register the parents of the dogs that are unknown but they are unknown also. Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks.

you have to start with dogs that are already in the database. If your dog is not a close descendant of a dog already in the database it is very difficult and lots of work. Just keep going back in the pedigree. If you go back as far as you can and still not in the database I don't think its possible. Make sure the spellings are correct too.
Take care,

Thanks Melanie.
Yes I am having lots of trouble. I've gone back to the early 70's and I am still finding only one parent or no parents.

Mysti, when you enter the first dog you will of course see the dialogue boxes concerning the information about the sire and dam. In the information about the sire dialogue box type "No Information About The Sire" and in the information about the dam dialogue box type "No Information About The Dam"
Do not use the quotation marks-I just used them to separate the words. Also, all lower case is fine for this part of the data entry. It is best to start with your present dog and work backward. Once all of the missing dogs are in the database you can select a dog and the Ped Update. At that end you can link the dog to the sire and dam.
It is quite a bit of work to insert more than two (2) generations of a dog. I know, for I have had to enter as many as nine (9). If there are any more questions, please e-mail me at derhundmeister.com and I can provide a bit more detail.
Good Luck,

Hi, First you have to register the parents or grandparents, whatever you have info about if they are not in the database. When it asks for their sire & dam type in "no information on sire" or "no information on dam". Once the sire and dam are registered in the database then you can register your dog. Does that make sense to you?Nancy
