I had a nightmare with the Atlanta airport with all you have to go thru now with Customs.  They could care less that your dog has been in a crate since Germany.  You can't let him out to stretch, go to the bathroom, eat or drink...not until you go pay these people to take your paperwork back over to Customs etc (all things you used to could do for yourself).  I got there at 6:30am and finally got thru their 3 ring circus, then they tell me if I had been another 30 mins they would have had to charge me $100.00 more to put my dog in a kennel.  It makes me wonder if this could have been how her dog "escaped", when they were taking it out of the crate.........

Atlanta is one of the busiest terminals in the US... it  could be that Delta at that location has issues. I've shipped with Delta a number of times in the past thru Bradley/Hartford. And had no complaints at all.   Sad that this has happened... wonder if it did happen when a crate was dropped??  Even though the hole was small from it, the door may have sprung....??

Why not file a complaint with SPCA. If it's that damn bad that their neglectful attitudes have caused the death of an animal, it needs to be investigated.

You can bet your ass that they would be in on you in a heartbeat if your dog got diarrhea and the neighbor complained. The feds (Customs) and the airlines should be held to an even higher standard of responsibility.

I have heard way too many horror stories about Delta. I had to ship a pup Delta a few weeks ago, and even making the reservation was a nightmare.  Then, there was another nightmare dropping him off. They absolutely sucked every step of the way, from general incompetence, to non-English speaking reservation takers who don't care that you're dealing with a living thing, to just plain old bad attitudes at the drop-off counter.

If there was any other way, I wouldn't have done it, and am making a blanket policy on my website that I will NOT ship Delta, no matter what. You want a pup where Continental, Pet Airways, etc. doesn't fly, well I'll let you sleep on my couch after you drive to come get them;-)
