I have been a lerker here for about 8 months i guess and have learned some valuable things along the way.
I am currently seeking for a female that i can title in Shutzhund and or train in protection. I have been told i can not do both so would like to hear others opinions on that one. I am really leaning towards a young pup or an older untrained pup as i would like to go through the training process myself and learn. We do have a Shutzhund club here but to be honest i have spent 6 months trying to get them to call me or email me back:(

I do have 2 gsd now that are obidience trained and i love them dearly but would love to go to the next level with a dog from the get go. The one is 7 and the younger that i have is 3 but she has fabulous natural protection but seems soft and i dont know if i can curb that or not. If i raise my voice for any reason not just at her her ears instantly go back and she slinks off...Love her but i think she is better at just being my baby!

Now i have seen beautiful dogs all over the world and have been researching pedigrees and some apear to have great pedigrees but after some of the stories i have read here i am scared to go anywhere..lol
There are some local breeders but none that i am pleased with in regards to a working dog.
Is it a bright idea at all to import from Germany etc A: if you are new, B: Sight unseen
Or are there pleaces that we can trust?

Thanks for any replies i appreciate it

Carmen,

hmm, I think you should still get in touch with somebody who will help you train your dog, somebody who is in your area. I don't know where you live but there are plenty good breeders in the USA who carry good WL dogs.
You can do whatever you want to with your dog when it comes to training. You can put  titles on PPD.. the points might be little lower but many people have done both.

If I were you, I would start talking to local people, maybe seek some breeders advice and maybe ask here about specific dogs or breeders. Of course, you can very much end up with a lot of garbage to go through as some people take the "breeder recommndations" personaly or they can disagree, it still gives you options.
Price range for dogs is $1000 -$2000 and actually up. but this is the price you are looking at.

Good luck and happy research

IMO I would not import from Germany sight unseen since you are new.  There are trustworthy and untrustworthy people everywhere, and I agree with GSDPACK that it will make things so much easier if you can find a trustworthy breeder that will stay in touch with you after you purchase your dog and help you along the way.  They don't have to be really close to you; better to find someone further away but more honest and helpful than someone really close but still selling you junk.

Where are you located?  If you don't want to say, that's ok, or you can say in a PM.

Schutzhund is a sport and yes, I, too, have heard it said that a Schutzhund-trained dog will not be good at personal protection, in the sense of being a Trained PP dog.  (A good German Shepherd Dog who is loved by you and who loves you back and is bonded to you will be a good watch dog and a good protector - but this is a big difference from being a dog specifically trained in Personal Protection).  In SchH, as you know, a dog is only allowed to bite a sleeve - can't bite anywhere else, EVER.  So this is a far cry from a dog trained to defend truly.
