If a dog is confident enough to confront you, "XXXXXXXXX" has a wild solution: Clench both sides of the dog's jowls, take the dog down to the ground with his face up and sit on top. What are some other lunatic suggestions suggested by dog trainers?

Well, William Kohler, unfortunatly, when he suggested trying to drown your dog in the hole it had dug in the garden to deter it from digging. And if the dog liked to chew on your carpet or woodwork, you were to put a piece of the chewed item in his mouth, and tape his mouth shut, so he would develop an aversion to the taste.

A lot of what he wrote was good, though, and anyone who had the skill to train the Siamese cats for the movie "That Darn Cat' must have been doing SOMETHING right!

by Dwayne2 on 01 January 2011 - 03:01

Nope, not him. He has also "been bitten in the face, arms and hands many times." Watching him train is like watching an episode of Jackass.

I knew it wasn't Bill. He was smarter than that. I just wanted to give some other examples of stupid trainng advice.

If somebody wants the answer they can PM me. Let's keep it to stupid suggestions by dog trasiners. I do admire anyone tha can train cats. ;)

Koehler training is OK. One of many systems. Most of the stuff used today is 10X worse and often it is a regurgitated copy of a copy of someone's retarded touchy feely training system.  People read 5 books and then write 6th book.
On the other hand Koehler was quite  self made original dog trainer  who applied known theoretical scientific  facts to practice.  Today's methods are about dogs being happy. Koehler was about dogs being reliably trained. Different point of view. That is all.
And yes not everyone is perfect.

This was definitely the 'OLD SCHOOL STYLE' and I do remember it but never did understand it's purpose or concept.  Glad it went out of date; I am sure some idiots still use this method but don't see where it could possibly help any dog, maybe a mountain lion??

I don't know who said that Dwayne2, but I'm sure the intent was to dominate the dog.

Cat's are best trained with rewards, they do not handle corrections well.

The water in the hole simply does not work...lol

Retarded touchy feely training system, I love that one.

So who was this trainer Dwayne?
The suspense is killing me.

Two Moons.

My guess: the monks of New Skeet? (before they revised their book) - I know they advocated the jowl corrections and the alpha rolls - not sure if they actually said to combine the two in one!
