Here is a sweet little Christmas week story. Yesterday my DH saw a tawny coloured Lhasa Apso running madly along our street, one of the busiest streets in town, without companion. He took off and cut off the little guy and brought him home. He is a sweet little guy and had tags on his collar one of which had a telephone number that is no longer in service and the other with a name "Chance" on it.  He was well groomed and well fed.

We called animal control and several local vets and left our number. Meanwhile we threw him in with our two Tzu's and everyone seemed happy. Later fed him and all was well, but no phone call. After I left for training at SchH club, my husband came home from the pub and got a message on the phone and called back. It turned out that an elderly lady living alone, about 2 blocks away who has Parkinson's disease and can hardly talk and barely walk, owned the little dog. She had to wait till her caregiver came by to get her to phone animal control as she couldn't do it (too complicated and she can't speak very well).  When the caregiver arrived, the woman was quite distraught about the little guy's disappearance.

So DH took the dog over to her place and said it was a very happy reunion. Turns out she had had a visitor that accidentally let the dog slip by out the door. She could not go looking when she discovered he was missing so had to wait for the caregiver. The dog's name it turns out was not "Chance" but Oscar. The phone number was a long defunct number for the old gal's son.

Lucky they had DH to scoop up Oscar and make sure he returned home. I'm sure Oscar is one of the old gal's reasons for enjoying life at this point and I'm so happy things turned out well.

Good job Wanderer. Too many people would have simply ignored the little dog and the ending likely would have been tragic....Good for you for being a doer!

Excellent outcome to what could have been a very tragic story.

could you please tell me what DH stands for.

Generally, DH refers to Dear/Darling Husband,
But in my case, and depending on which day it is I can come up with other meanings.

I have another true story that turned out well. Had I not been involved, I might not believe it.

A week ago, I saw some people on my property late at night. I got in the vehicle and drove over to them and asked them what they were doing. They were a relatively new family that lives about a mile away from me and they were looking for their dog, an old male lab, and a calf! The lab and the calf were said to be best friends. I decided to help them, especially knowing that I am on the edge of rural land where if lost, the dog and calf could be hit by a vehicle, or lost forever. We all went different directions. We searched and searched and after about 45 minutes we met and went off in different directions again. Eventually I met up with the man of the family and his wife had found the calf and the dog. To make a long story short, the animals were probably 5 miles away from the house! They had been missing perhaps 4 hours or so and were that far away, somehow having crossed a high speed road or two. We finally picked up the calf and put her in the car and put the lab in their truck. Lab and calf went safely home, and from now on, calf will be confined to a coral! True and sweet. The calf came to me just as if it were a dog when I called her name....it was very funny and very sweet, and I froze my ...... off looking for those two. But all is well that ends well.

In this day and age it's a pleasure to read a thread with several happy endings.
