does anyone have to fight with your dog to get the snow shovel! dodge the dog so you can shovel and toss the snow? try to shoo her away from biting the handle of the shovel and always getting  between the shovel and snow that needs to go? Quick enough to prevent her from clawing at the shovel when you want to scoop up snow? do you understand the strange sounds they make aside from barking? A stationary shovel ready to get the snow gets a mad dog digging at the front of the shovel making all sorts of strange sounds

I have a female that for some reason goes into a hold and bark if I pick up the shovel..  She also will go over to it when propped against the wall, bark at it, and grab it and pull it around the yard. Only the shovel, not a rake or broom.

LOL!  I  hear ya!  One of my dogs tries to get the lawnmower (attacks the bag & wheels).  Got to put him up while I rake, shovel, blow leaves.  And he too waits on the other side of the fence to catch every shovel full of snow.

Also, he used to get the vacuum and once he grabbed the bag and popped it and let all the dust out.  He doesn't bother the vacuum anymore or a broom.  Just outside now.

That's just a matter of controlling your dog. Whether it's high drive or not you should still be able to do yard work with your dog out.
