Sorry for my ignorance. But, what is boxing day?

by Pirates Lair on 27 December 2010 - 04:12
In Canada and some Commonwealth countries, the day after Christmas (Dec 26th) is called Boxing Day.
Thought to be for for cleaning up the boxes etc from Christmas, now it is just another holiday that involves massive sales (Boxing Day Sales). People will spend the night outside a store to be the first ones in line when it opens.
Origin - It was created to give thanks and assist the less fortunate in the community

The aristocrats would "box" up their leftovers from the Christmas feast and give them to the poor servants who invariably had to work for them during Christmas day.

Sounds good to me. Happy Boxing Day to all you good neighbors to the north, and have a great new year as well.
