I have a friend who has a young dog, not a GSD though. They're looking for a decent food, but they're on a budget.  Any suggestions? Taste of the Wild is what I would have suggested, but they're on tight budget.

Then they do not need a dog..

This is one of my pet peeves.. If  your wife comes home and says  I am pregnant...well, you just earn more money, rearrange your PRIORITIES and you raise a healthy child...

IF you are on a tight budget than you  have no business making a CHOICE to bring a puppy into a home where it is gonna stress the budget.. ALL dogs  require MONEY to keep healthy and in good condition .

If this household has to go find another job or work longer hours for a DOG>..the dog suffers...not the household...and where does the dog end UP??????????????????????????????

Everyone wants a DOG...  DOES every DOG want a home where the budget is TIGHT?

GSDGuy -- I have read on here several times that a good (decent), inexpensive dry food is Kirklands -- sold at Costco.   A couple that may be better and not too expensive are Blue Buffalo and Pinnacle.

Kirkland from costco is $28 for a 40lb bag. Its made by diamond.

Kirkland is an excellent choice, less fillers than most big name brands. Raw meat is better and sometimes cheaper depending on your location.

The Costco's in the West carry a grain free TOTW Salmon recipe knock off. I believe its $27.00 for 35 lbs. I used it for a couple of months last winter and was happy with the results. Kirkland was $21.00 for 40 lbs. I know a lot of people who use it and are happy enough, but I'm a stickler for a nice coat condition.

Shelley I had looked into that brand for myself previously, but none of the local Costcos here carry that. Someone on this board told me about that food, but the guys at Costco said it was an online only type thing around here. Otherwise I would have suggested that food.

4Health is another good food that's also budget-friendly.  About $30 for a 30lb bag.  It's only sold at Tractor Supply though.

Kirkland is a good food. I have fed both the chicken and rice and the lamb and rice formulas. I have heard that the dogs seem to do better on the lamb and rice. The only thing I dont like about the Kirkland is that I had to double the amount of food when I was feeding it to keep my dogs weight correct. But if someone is on a budget and is still wanting to feed a good food Kirkland would be on the top of my list. Not everyone can afford $70 for a bag of dog food.
If the friends of yours have a Tractor Supply Company near them they can try the Diamond Naturals line too. It is a decent food also.
