I just noticed a lump about the size of a golf ball under my 8 month old GSd lower jaw towards the rear. I have had him a little over a week, he was imported from Czech. He definately didn't have it last night.  It dosen't seem to bother him and he is is normal happy playfull self.  Any ideas what this can be?

I am not a medical expert of any kind.  I only have my own limited experience from cats and dogs and from friends' experience.

My first suspicion would be an abcess from a puncture wound.

I could also be a fluid filled lump from his saliva gland, I have seen them before and they are filled with a very thick sticky fluid, can erupt over night . May need to be lanced.

Not being a vet .............. but knowledgable ............. could it be the lymph gland .................. they are in that are also and is the golf ball size lump visible by the naked eye or just by feel ............. I hope the best and get him to the vet in the morning. Greg

They are both right, usually from a dirty nail, or insect bite;it fills with pus unless you lanced it. Put her under antibiotics, like cephalexine, for a week and Dexamethaxone for the inflammation ; it will look better in a couple of days. Try to keep his area as clean as possible and trim the nails. Good luck

Yes I know ( nothing quite as tasty as a chocolate roll) but how would that give him a lump under the jaw unless of couse he already had a wound plus bacteria ????

It would be a bit old for puppy strangles, but coming from the Czech Republic could be a bug he has never seen before. The location sounds like lymph node and is probably puss filled.some of these can get so large as to impede the ability to breathe properly. If this were my puppy, I would be on the vet's doorstep first thing in the morning. May need to be lanced, Clavamox is usually the drug of choice in this type of presentation. Can't know for sure without a culture.

For sure you can't know unless you take the puppy to your vet. My husband is a vet and I have been a tech for 25 years. The above is a generalized guess based on experience, but only the hands on and personal diagnostics can tell what is up with your puppy.
