Hello.  My bitch has had one litter and had carried fine.  We are 22 days into pregnancy (to be confirmed soon via ultrasound) and I just noticed some spotting.  Dark brown blood.  No odour at all.  Bitch has no fever.  Very lethargic indoors (high engery outdoors).  Likely pregnant from what I can glean as has been very apathetic last week or so and seems a mite more turgid in belly area. No other issues. Only one day of spotting (today)

Has anyone had a bitch that "spotted" a bit?

Of course we will get a vet check when ultrasound in next couple days but....

Hi, sorry to tell you ,but it means 1 or more fetuses have been aborted...have you given her anything other than food after breeding? ( vaccine, raw food, cheese , food sitting outside, , deworming)...or maybe it could have been you did not do a culture and she had some bacteria, which now is affecting the development of the fetuses. Good luck,

It does not necessarily mean she aborted a fetus.  It could be several things.  She could have a split heat.  She could have pyometra.  It could also be normal.  My "Violka" always spots 3 weeks in to pregnancy.
However, it could be something very serious so I would suggest you take her to the vet.

Spotting is only normal after delivery, no into pregnancy. Bhall , I suggest you do a cervical culture on your female before you breed her again. Pyometra will cause some smell, but it could just be the beginning, hopefully is just a bacteria in her cervix. Good luck,

She is going to see the vet within the next few days for an ultrasound.  Obviously if she is feverish etc she will be taken in immediately.

I know sometimes humans spot with implantation.  I wonder if dogs do as well although I am not sure if they implant 2 or 3 weeks in.
I guess I am a mite concerned.  I will watch her.  Was hoping for personal experiences.

Spotting can happen and can happen without a medical concern.

Spotting can happen and everything bejust  fine, it does happen. a split heat at 22 days out is definitely not out of the realm of reason.
It sounds to me like you are on top of things, if it continues take her in sooner, if not, the ultrasound in a couple days will tell the tale.
Good luck.

This is kinda strange....I am having the same situation with my bitch. Has had one litter before. I dont remember her bleeding much after her cycle completed. But this time, her entire cycle has been way off too. I actually think she has just now stopped bleeding. She is two weeks in. They say implantation takes place around days 17-18.  And that was the middle of last week. I have also been keeping an eye on her temp. She has stayed at 100.0 degrees.  I have her ultrasound scheduled for Dec 30. Ofcourse if anything changes, I will bring her in sooner.

yes I know of two cases that happened just recently both bitches were put on antiboitics[ clavamox for one SMZ the other] both whelped normal litters one was an import bitch that was bred surgical the other was a Frenchie. its worrysome but clearly it worked out for those bitches.

they way to determine a split heat is to pull progesterone
