Hello Friends, please can any one let me know if the use of "ivermec" or it's other related medication is safe to adminiter to a bitch in heat, which is supposed to be mated a couple of days later: say 5-6 days later. Jdiaz1791, Ibrahim n nonacona60 wrote something interesting in a related thread today, however, i want some straight clarifications, bcos my bitch is on heat and i'm just waiting for the right day/time to send in the hammer. My regards.

NDM,
Some people continue to give Ivomec throughout pregnancy.  Some people will stop once the breeding takes place....Each ones have a legitimate reason...I continue to give it and have been doing so a very long time....I never had any side effects from giving....I am located in the southern region of the states where heartworms could be a big problem if not kept on a faithful preventative program.....Some vets says to stop and some will say, no need to stop.....

Which ever you decide to do, is not wrong nor right. I believe it will be a matter of who's opinion, whether a vet or a friend, you choose to follow....If still in doubt, talk to the vet you normally trust....

Good Luck....

Hi, I only do it first day of heat and 14 days after, so mom is totally clean. Vets use to tell,or still do, people that it kills dogs. Funny thing is, heartworm medicine now says in the packaging " now with Ivormec ". I have used it for years and it kills everything, including heartworm. If anyone has heartworm problem, use it, increasing 0.10 every 11 days, until you get to the full dosage for your dog ( if 70 lbs, 0.70 )......imagine the difference, when vets charge as much as 2,000 for a heartworm treatment....like Nona said, you should follow who you want to. Good luck,
