I was wondering if there is a way to bring a female into heat, by way of a hormone shot or something? Any input is appreciated, thanx.

There is, but I would highly recommend that you not use this (especially on a young dog), unless directed to do so for her health by a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. MOST female will come in heat when they are ready, and not before. Forcing the issue is typically a bad idea, as there is USUALLY a reason for the lack thereof. :)

Christina, Just out of curiosity
Why do you want to know? I think youve open a can of worms here.
Hormonal treatment that causes heat cycles (side effects, etc) as VomFelsenHof mention should be illegal if done by an intact female. There is no reason why people must force their poor females in heat just so they can develop more puppies just to make a buck.
Let nature do her thing.

I believe brittany you are trying to open the worms here, she might want to know just to improve her or his knowledge and how did you determine that she or anyone here is trying to make a buck, also VomFelsenHof has not mention it is illegal he just mention that this should be done only with the consultation of a Vet. Who knows the female might be old and may be the owner wants to breed her the last time. Don't assume that anyone doing this wants to make a buck. Just read the topics and let it go not just try to oppose everyones opinion on this board. Try to help if you can, if you don't have answer keep quiet. Don't try to teach non sense !!!

Brittany says:

So I say "if" I were to consider giving this treatment to one of my bitches, then I should have a hysterectomy first?

Hey, thanks for the input. Actually my dog is not a pup (she's 2 1/2) and she has had about 3 heats so far. I am at fault for not having the exact date of her last heat, I just thought she might be late for her heat now. As far as making a buck goes, yes, when I have puppies they will be sold, but not over priced. They will also be healthy, well bred and guaranteed. I do not apologize for being in "animal production" , I choose to do it well. Money I get for my pups will be earned, not charity, and not stolen. I do want to expand my knowledge of some things and maybe she isnt as late as I think she is. I didnt mean to start anything here, and I have no hard feelings towards anyone here at all. I really do appreciate all of the input, I knew I could get good info here. Thank you all, and have a great day.
