I have been searching the old database threads about information on different foods. I have been feeding Natural Balance Sweet Potato. About 3 months ago I added TOTW Pacific Stream....I notice that my males breath smells, his stool smells especially nasty and sticks to his fur, and he bites his feet. Has anyone else had this problem with TOTW...???...
FWIW... I would never consider feeding Iams food again, but my female GSD passed away at 14 years old and ate Iams her whole life. Never had any medical issues and had a very nice coat......I have a 12 year old Great Dane who is still with me today,,,,,,ate Iams her whole life with no medical problems and in her younger years was a real looker.......Food that makes you go...Hmmmmm........

Hi Deanna,
I feed TOTW and when I first switched to it I tried the fish variety and my guys also got the runs and smelled a bit "off". The next time I bought it I tried the bison and venison variety and the stools firmed up and smell went away, they are still on it and doing great, coats look wonderful and I have actually been able to get some weight on my male. I also was an Iams feeder back in the day and had 2 mix breeds live to 12 and 16 years with no issues ever ;-)

Hi Ruger1,
I feed my first GSD Iams and she did really good on it, she just passed away last January at 15 years and 1 month. She never had any health problems other then bad hips that she started showing at 8 months. I'm not an expert but we are sure it had nothing to do with food.
I was feeding TOTW fish also and noticed the same things, the poo was really dark and smelly, and it stuck to my males bum. My female started to chew on her feet also, so I switched them to Acana (made by Orijin) fish formula, the poo and smell was better but my female was still chewing on her feet. I switched them again to the Orijin Chicken just a couple of months ago and things are looking much better, we still however had the itchy foot thing with my female but it is now clearing up. I think it has just taken some time to get them healed and now we will see. Both of their coats look shinny and healthy and they love it.

I feed all the dogs that come through my place with TOTW and raw mix..no problems. I fed Iams once and it was a desaster..the poop was fine but the muscle mass dissapeared the dog looked dangly and all loosened up and so.. bad. So I found TOTW and never looked back. I feed lamb mixed with salmon and Raw.. Beautiful coats, great muscle and no smelly poops ot stick poops.
Every animal has its thing. There are dogs that cant handle raw.. there are dogs that need cooked food and there are dogs that look the best on Pedigree!

I wonder if its just a fishy thing?..too much fish oil will make even human smell bad...gsdland may have a good point there. :)

Depending on how far back you're talking, Iams WAS a different food, and considered better than average. P&G at its finest! LOL
I firmly believe some day, somehow, feeding biologically inappropriate food will catch up. There are people who smoke 5 packs a day and live until 96. That doesn't mean smoking is good for you or that those people are a good argument for smoking.

I agree, don't you think it is funny how fast the topic of dog food and start a fight?
