I hate reading about any dog attacks.  I really hate it when it's a GSD.  www.komonews.com/news/local/111966499.html

I'm gonna get killed for this, but the lady sounds like she's drumming up a huge lawsuit.

As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't a German Shepherd dog it was a Shepard, with which I don't have a clue what kind of dog that is.

And when the whole story comes to light, it will probably be a matter of the owner trying to seperate her little dog from the big dog attacking it, breaking up dog fights is very dangerous!

Mirasmom, that was kind of my vision of the event. She said the dog was fine and all of a sudden? I could see her rug-pisser getting nasty and the "shepard" coming back on the dog and she tried to defend fluffy and got tore up. Any way you look at it, this shouldn't happen. I just feel that some of the statements lead me to believe we're looking for a big payout. Most people make different comments. Most people would probably comment on how they are glad their daughter wasn't harmed.

Don, I agree with you. She made several statements that raised a red flag for me regarding the outcome of the incident. Ostensibly, the owner of the GSD is liable, but this woman sounds like she is looking to make more than expected "damages" and that makes the whole scenario even more tragic.

Oh yeah! She's used every phrase she heard on "Law and Order" last week. :-) The dog must have been microchipped for the owners to have been contacted by police, given the lack of a collar or tags.(?) Presumably, the owners live in the same general area or Renton as this _________, so the owners are probably just as trashy as she is...and judgment -proof. :-)

I do sympathize with this woman, having been seriously dog bitten myself.  Animal bites are very painful and highly prone to infection, and a dog like this who would attack for no good reason does put the liability of having done so squarely on the shoulders of it's owners, when he is running around uncontrolled where innocent people are walking about.

I can only imagine how terrified her daughter must have been, watching all of this unfold in front of her eyes... I can guarantee that neither of them will be able to forget that vision, which will play in their head like a video for months to come.
But I agree...she does say all the right things to set up that guarantee of a future payout.

I firmly believe that kids from a young age should be taught how to react and how NOT to react if attacked by a dog.  It should be up there with 'Stranger Danger' and it should be implimented across all schools no matter what country you are in.  Get them whilst they are young and teach them a life skill that may well at some point save them, and us from reading headlines like that..

Education is vital in preventing dog attacks, because at the end of the day there will always be some irresponsible muppet that can't, won't or just can't be bothered to control their dog.
