I have been a long-time lurker. I am looking for training methods that don't involve hurting the dog. So shock collars and table training are out of the question. Do you have suggestions?

clicker, praise, food, praise, tug, praise, reward,.......  in any combination that works for you and your dog.

What is your definition of long? Just wondering because there are many posts from the near past that all talk about positive training. There are many posts on here that focus on training and rarely do I see a post on e-collar or table training. What are your goals?

AND,IF I MAY ASK WHAT,IS WRONG WITH TABLE TRAINING?? I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A DOG GETTING HURT ON A TABLE. BEFORE THE DOG GOES ON THE TABLE HE OR SHE IS MENTALLY READY OR A GOOD TRAINER WOULD NOT PUT HER THERE.   WHERE YA AT NATE??

I saw and knew a dog that was trained to Universal Sieger by Hardy Ernsting & Dr. Jutta Strecker-Nsouli (Dasko v Arlett) he has his own website by the same name, you can google it. Dr. Nsouli is an extremely nice woman that trained him and made sure that anyone that worked with Dasko used only positive training methods. He was an extremely nice dog that could do the work as well as trot the ring.

Look it up it would be well worth your time to read her articles and contact her for info.

Sable, I deleted half my post so that it didn't turn into the usual. I should have known it wouldn't go quietly. Educate the person. If this is actually real. I find it a bit weird that someone has heard of table training and an e-collar, but needs to know of alternative Training methods. I think this is just an attempt to talk about the two topics.

"So shock collars and table training "

My friend come from out of the dark and into the light.  Equipment has gotten better and those drachonian methods do not have to be utilized with the modern e-collar and table training.

E-Collars are no more dangerous or painful than choke chains when used appropriately and fairly. Like all equipment, they are tools to have at your disposal for certain situations and certain dogs. And they should only be used by experienced trainers or handlers.

Someone asked on an earlier thread “where have all the good tough dogs gone”.

With all due respect, some of those good tough dogs will not respond to hugs and kisses and clickers. I rarely use E-collars, but I won’t hesitate to use one if it involves safety (for everyone including the dog) in a particular training exercise. I personally do not know of any “trainer” who uses pain as a training method.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, positive reinforcement & negative reinforcement

Table training is not a dangerous or a harmful training method...The people who tell that tale are not people who have learned from the proper people..

Nate Harves can unspell any of that MYTH  immediately.  Just because there are people who Table Train the wrong way and didnt learn the right methods   , doesn't make it unusable..or doable...

It is for hard , tough dogs and determined stubborn , clean , of good nerves ,,not every dog needs table training..
Some people I know could stand a few runs on  a Table...lol

and there are others   ...Just find the TRUTH and not the lies..

My goals are two part. One is for protection against a gay sexagenarian internet stalker. The other part is to get the dog to stop thinking he is the cat. There is only one cat in the house and the cat rules the house. The cat would not have it any other way.
