I trained with Joe last spring-at that time he sold a half-brother to two of my girls to the UMPD and had pulled a female Beligian Malinois as a narcotic prospect from the shelter.

What a great story! there are many that can be turned around and trained for many jobs . In this case I think they are wrong on  the chow part  thou :)

Yes, looks pure GSD to me! Maybe he has some black spots on his tongue? Many people think (wrongly) that is a sign of chow ancestry!

by beetree on 10 December 2010 - 14:12

Sunsilver you must be right.  I agree, must be some crazy misconception, that would explain how the heck they got chow out of "stray" that looks purebred GSD.

shep,

Are your two girls related to Enzo?  It could be that your dogs and my female are maternal half sisters.

Great story and I too bet on the black spotted tongue.  No ChowChow in that beautiful shepherd.

Dogbone,

Not sure which dog Enzo is-couldn't find any information this morning-both of my girls and the GS that Joe sold to the MUPD are great grand get of Sven Vom Granfental-my girls' dam was a granddaughter of Sven-I bought the dam in '08 and had her spayed-she only had the two litters-I've one female from each.

If the slide show for the article can be accessed it will show dew claws on the "Mix's" back legs-it looks like he might have doubles on the "right" hind-they may have made the "Chow" judgement based on that.

This is EXACTLY what I've been talking about. There are SO MANY great working line dogs with tons of ability in shelters and rescues in this country, too much for an inexperienced home, loaded with ability and desire LITERALLY DYING FOR A JOB. We don't need to breed near as many as we have been in this economy. I'm putting my efforts into saving the ones in need now, and not breeding any till things get a LOT better.

A better deal on a great dog you will never get than the ones in rescues and shelters. Papers schmapers, let's put 'em to work!

At the time I was training with Joe last Spring-he was always on the lookout for good prospects . . . .  .

shep,

Enzo vom Adel Haus was the previous MU bomb dog.  He is mentioned in the article.  My dog is not related directly to him, but his father, Half vom Alenbauch (sp?), has also been bred to my females mother.  He was retired last year from the MUPD because he was believed to have Lupus.  Was a nice enough dog, though he did not have the disposition to be a dual purpose K9.
