I've got a dog who turns two in January who I'll be neutering soon. A lot of people have suggested waiting until a dog is closer to maturity to neuter, and I'll be doing so soon.  What do your guys vets charge for neutering? I'm not too fond of the vet I had been going to so I'll be looking to go to a different vet for the operation.  And isn't there a month where spay/neutering is cheaper? I can't remember what month though.

i have not had one neutered but i would think it about the cost of spaying a female.a dog does not fully mature until 3 years old.

I said closer to maturity, I'm not waiting until maturity. Honestly I have both parents of this same dog. From the age 2 to 3 in his sire I couldn't tell any difference in how he acted, nor did he change any in size as well.

Neutering a male is always cheaper than spaying a female. Snip, snip, vs. major surgery.

beetree isn't there a month where they do both cheaper than normal? Or am I thinking of something else. I have no intentions of breeding him, and he's going with me to Bowling Green in the spring so I want to go ahead and get him neutered.

I'm  in New England, and I've never heard of that! We always pay top dollar here for some reason, for every blessed thing.

Ah, that stinks.  In my town the cost of most anything is very cheap compared to other cities I've visited or other cities I have friends in.  Well, things in general, I guess in the morning I'll call around different local vets, I just do not want the one I use to go to handling my dog.

There is a month that they promote it but I can't remember when.  Lot of help aren't I?  I would call around and see if there is a low cost place--a lot of shelters do it really cheap.  We have a program here that is low cost.  I had a girl spayed over a year ago and it was less than 40....................

I called around, it's in February where they do the low cost.  However I decided to go ahead and make this dogs appointment for next week on Tuesday.

What you are paying for at most vets is pre-anesthetic bloodwork as well, this should ideally be done within 30 days.  Also, get pain medication.  Some vets will do it without pain meds, and IMO that borders on cruel.  Vets around here go about $140 to $400 for neuter.  With the low-cost clinics being free to $75.  It's a simple procedure, these vets can do it in their sleep.
