Elkoorr

by Elkoorr on 05 December 2010 - 02:12

My youngster Apache vom Eisenherz passed his BH today under judge Al Govednik and in misserable conditions. Snow showers, sleet and finally rain with temps in the low 30's. He did an excellent job, but blew the long down. It giggled me as he was crawling almost all the way towards me, a bit at a time....LOL Guess we will be doing a lot of long downs over the winter, preferably in slush of course :)

Congrats.  Those belly crawls.......

Great news! You should be very proud, especially under those conditions.

Congrats!  It's always nice to get that BH out of the way.  Too funny about the long down (well, yes and no)  But I can see it in my head and I can't say I blame him in those conditions.  Anyway Whoo Hoo for You two.

how do you pass when your dog blew the long down?

by TessJ10 on 05 December 2010 - 14:12

I can answer that one.

In a BH it's pretty much at the judge's discretion, since it's primarily a temperment test and the BH is not a title.  If the dog showed well in all the other phases - well under control and performing well in the off-leash heeling, the motion exercises, and the recall, the judge can very well pass a BH dog on to the traffic phase, overlooking the only error: a creepy-crawley in the snow.  :-)

Congrats, Elkoorr - don't you just love those  "my dog never did that before" moments?!?!

Wetzler:  You need 70% of the total points to pass from OB to the traffic portion of the test, so you can fail the long down but still have enough points to pass, though in order to do so everything else must be very good, as I'm sure the case was with Elkoorr.
