Hi, K9 Schultzie was killed last nite on rt. 42 in NJ.  His handler Officer Mark Pickard of Gloucester Twsp NJ PD  was pursuing two armed robbery suspects described as 2 black males. When Picard tracked and came upon one he deployed Schultzie who was grabbed and thrown into traffic, and I believe killed instantly. Only one subject was apprehended. More to come on this as links develop and will post. Schultz scored very High at the recent Nationals in Louisiana and this is indeed a horrendous Tragedy.  VB

Being a police service dog handler for 12 years now retired my thoughts in sincerity go out first to the handler and his family and to the agency for which he served. Regards ,    Greg

Horrible & tragic....
It just makes apparent....the potential dangers that our Police officers face, every day on the job....both human and K9.
To all officers...."be careful...be safe.."
respectfully,
Robin

I agree with Bob...the handler should serve the justice to the perp.  POS deserves to be thrown into traffic.  I know a few truck drivers that could oblige.  RIP Schultzie.

My condolences to Officer Pickard.  The perpetrator should be dealt with appropriately.  I often hear the phrase (in various forms) "it's just a dog".  Well, those people obviously have never been blessed with a great K9 companion nor would they recognize dignity and loyalty if it bit them in the......well you get my drift.
