Which food brand would you suggest for my Golden retriever puppy?.......anything from Royal Canine that is specific for golden retriever?........also is having corn meal good or bad in terms of nutrition?

Red Sable

Any food that does not have alot of grains in it is best for dogs.  Some dogs have an allergy to corn, some do fine on it.

Many feed Royal Canine with good results.  If your puppy's coat is shiny and healthy, and he has lots of energy with no scratching, than he is doing fine.

Best of luck with your puppy.

I feed the Pacific Stream formula of Taste of the Wild to both of my German Shepherds, my Golden Retriever and my Miniature Pinscher. They all do well on it, and have healthy looking coats.

Ol Roy vs Innova . It all depends on your dog. How active? any food allergies?

Ground Beef vs Fillet.

not really cost affective to feed high dollar foods for the average pet. It will not add any more years to your pet nor increase the quality of living of your dog.

Now if you are referring to increasing performance of an athlete (gundog, sar, hunting, sport, police, etc), that's a different story.

I have a  young GSD that's in the early stages of SAR work. I feed Chicken Soup for the Dog lover's soul. Lame Brand name, but a pretty good food. check out the ingrediants.

james.....you're telling me what you feed a pet makes no difference? So if I feed my "pet" a dog food that has a lot of stuff she's allergic to.......she will do just as well on a dog food that has nothing in it that she's allergic to? yeah right.......

Please read my statement in full. One of my first statements asks about  "ANY FOOD ALLERGIES?"

All dogs are not allergic to corn grains.

I did not say it did not make any difference. What I was trying to communicate to you is the food you feed your dog is dependant on the activity level of your dog and genetics (allergies).  If your dog is the average back yard pet you do not need high performance/high quality kibble unless your dog has food allergies or other health reasons.

It is true some dogs have food allergies to kibble containing corn, wheat, and other grains. Most do not.

So most don't have allergies to corn or grains? I can think of tons of dogs who do.  Even if my dogs didn't have allergies I would feed them good quality food.  Do you want your kids to eat mac n cheese every night or an actual healthy meal.  It may not affect how long they live.....it may....I don't think you can really say it won't, but it MAY affect the quality of the last years the dog goes through.  My parents had a Retriever who they fed scraps for years, he developed cancer from the foods he was given over the years.  Some dogs do fine on Ol Roy, yes, and live for 16 years.....I've heard all the stories about it....my dogs would be dead by now.  No not all dogs are allergic to corn and grains.....MANY Huskies are though, I have a few of them.  I also know of a ton of different people who had regular mixed breed pets, who would have red itchy skin from corn allergies.  It's not just the rare few that have it.  Sorry, but even if dogs don't have allergies to it, it's not a bad idea to feed food that is actually good for them.
