Typically, all we hear are horror stories about co-ownership. I'd like to know if anyone has any good stories to tell, and if so, how they made it work. What kind of contract/provisions did you stipulate in your agreement?

I have a great little female that kind of fell into my lap. I had planned on selling her, but she's really nice. I'd love to keep her, but won't kid myself; my plate is FULL right now, and I just can't be fair to a puppy of her caliber right now. I fully plan on my life settling down in the not-so-distant future, so I hate to lose something I can't replace due to a temporary situation.

It may be wishful thinking, but I'm trying to think of a way I could "keep" her but not be too selfish and keep her here when I know full well I don't have time for her. I need to be fair to the dogs I already have, and my child.

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I wondered how long it would be before someone suggested that. Email me, would ya? Everything good?

What is co-ownership and what is the point of it? Why do people do it?

I tried it once "only"..but think some people have had luck doing it...

What do you think about fostering her out.
I see breeders do it often,  though I'm not sure what kind of deal they make so both parties are happy.

Nothing good ever comes of co-ownerships!

Ok, 4pack. I have a furry one chewing my hand, my foot, my pant leg, my sleeve, my carpeting, my chair legs...yet she somehow knows not to do that w/the baby. :-)

Fostering is an idea, I guess.

I've never thought about this because I've never had reason to; I'm not one to hoard dogs. I've never been a big fan of those people who farm dogs out all over the place for breeding rights. If a dog is that good, keep it, raise it, breed it yourself. How can you really know a dog well enough to breed it correctly and responsibly if you have never lived with it?   This is where I'm wrestling with doing this, but really don't want to lose this little monster. I could possibly breed the parents in the future, so I may just sell her, but you know how I'll kick myself if the next batch isn't half as good, lol.

She's a special girl...just something about her.

Have known quite a few people that have done it...and I've never heard anything good come out of it...I've had my chance to co-own some very good females before...Thought about it and said...NO....
By the way...that ended a friendship too...So what would it have been like if we had gone through with the co-ownership...
There are many other ways to get what you want without co-owning...Just think about what you want to achieve and then come up with different things that would accomplish it...
Maybe you want to sell her and get a litter back out of it...
Maybe you want to give her to a friend with the intent to breed her and then you can give 1/2 the litter or whatever to the person that kept her...
There are many other ways to get what you want without co-ownership...
