Very like a ChowChow. I don't really care for that boxy a head on my GSDs, tho' that dog is certainly handsome, just not (to me,anyway) very typey. JMHO. jackie harris

I also like very strong heads on my gsd boys.  But this one seems a bit much....I would have to see him in person to really say, yay or nay......Pictures can be so deceiving.....

I have noticed this 'look' creeping into a lot of males over the last few years.

I wonder if he is oversize, because I've noticed  that this heavy 'jowly' almost bloodhound like 'look' seems to occur more frequently in oversized dogs.  Then again, maybe that's just coincidence.

I really wonder how those dogs can even get KKL 1 - they don't look anything like the German Shepherd they are supposed to be. Who thought about breeding that dark red - yes chow chow comes to mind! - and super sized heads? He is not the only one like that but surely does not resemble the SV guidelines..."wedge-shaped, ...not too plump..." and in the picture it doesn't look like the percentage of occiput to face is 50% either....(SV "Rassestandard"). No wonder there are two fronts on working-line and show-line....

I believe that if the judges would fault the dogs that are not close representative of the standard, than the breeders would try to eliminate those particular undesirable characteristics....As long as the judges continue to reward it, then it will continue...I am talking about ANY thing that is not within the standard, not any one thing in particular...JMO
