I know of Canadian Eskimo Dog handlers that fast their dogs for a week at a time often. THis is done from nessessity though. The dogs are then fed from subsistence hunting. So things like seal meat is what they get on site. It's also very high in fat which if I remember correctly would harm your average dog. They are bred for it though and if i remember correctly are capable of -70 degree weather. Which is much harsher than what alaskan race dogs can do. Just goes to show what modern pet owners view as a fast and what other people in the world view as a fast are quite different.

We fast our adult dogs every Sunday. They may or may not get their raw on that day. Just depends on what I have in the freezer.

Fasting? under which religion? Dog or gsd denomination? Praise da Lord, for such animal called the dog and for such a wonderful breed common known as the 'GSD'. Amen!

We fast most of ours one day a week. One of the older guys no longer gets fasted, he needs food with a medication he's on. The young pups don't get fasted until they are close to 7-8 months or so.

My dogs are fasting and meditating as well. So far they're on day 23 out of 40.

I can't figure if this is serious or one of the games members play here sometimes.
Are you serious that you let your dogs fast ( no food, no water) one day each week?, if yes why? what is the benefit? is it to cut feeding cost or what exactly?
Regards
Ibrahim

Ibraham,
I also do that, I didn't think anyone else did.
It cleans out their system, gives it some sort of break.
In the wild your dog wouldn't get all the amenities it gets from us now, they would have to eat as much as they could while it was in front of them and wait to go hunting again.
I know they are not wild anymore, but sometimes, when you practice things that were a part of their past history, it brings some sort of instinct back to them that seems lost.
Sorry if I sound confusing, I understand what I see with my own eyes, but can't capture it in words!
