Hi Stephanie,
#### #######   thought you might be able to help. I have 2 older purebred German Shepherd Dogs available to the right homes. I am the breeder for both of these dogs. The first - Dusty - was my son's dog but he can't have him where he's living. The 2nd was my pick bitch and she was placed in what I thought was the best home possible. As you will read below, that was a gross mistake. I have her litter brother and they used to be a fine pair. Now they're as different as night and day. It goes to show what abuse can do to a dog and it's heart breaking. But she comes from excellent breeding so I'm still hopeful that she can recover from a lot of this. I might be fooling myself - I don't know. If you can help me place them in the right homes, I would appreciate it. For now, they have a good home with me and are well taken care of.

1) 5yr old neutered male. Dusty is insecure and is having dominant issues within his pack and needs to find a new home. He is a sweet boy, good with people but wants to be the only dog in the household. He's eager to please and very trainable. Dusty has bitten before - always strangers (to him) that came on his property. Dusty would be very happy on a farm or ranch where the owner doesn't get a lot of company and he can run and play and burn off his never-ending energy. He loves playing ball!

2)2yr old female (will be spayed on 11/24). Peaches was rescued from a home where she was kept in a dark, filthy pen all day and night with little human interaction and had to fight for her food. She has a notch taken out of her ear and came to me full of whipworm. She was skittish and cowered all the time. She has been treated for the worms and will have her 2nd treatment right before she's spayed. I should be getting her paperwork in the next few days and if she's isn't up to date on her shots, she will be before she can leave. She has no house manners and I have been working with her but progress is slow since I have other dogs in my house. She plays well with other dogs and people, but seems to hate men. My son (28yrs) has done nothing but speak softly and calmly to her and give her treats and she continues to growl at him through her crate. I suspect that she was mistreated physically by a young man at her previous home. She is slowly starting to calm down and plays well in the yard with her litter mate (whom I kept) and finally holds her head up. Freedom has been a bit stressful for her so we are taking it slow. Peaches is available to a single woman who is willing to put in the time and effort (and patience) to have a really good dog. The right couple with training experience and the desire to get her over her distrust of men would be acceptable also, but it would be an uphill battle for them, I'm afraid. She is smart and absolutely stunning to look at.

If you hear of anyone who might be interested and able to provide a good home for either one of these dogs, please let me know or they may contact me directly: 406-570-5223 or broedster@aol.com

Thank you,

 Dear Becky,

I am sorry I cannot help you out. First of all I am slammed myself with 17 dogs here right now, and more waiting to come in, because of breeders. I will work with the breeders that take back their own dogs and even refer potential customers that only want a puppy, to these awesome breeders. They are far and few between. Whenever I get a dog in that belongs to a breeder, I always call them to give them a chance to take their own dog back. Most of them tell me to go to hell, when they sell the dog they don't care what happens to them, to me that is the lowest form of a human being.

I do appreciate you taking your dogs back, but I truly feel that it is your responsibility to rehome them and not pass it off to someone else. Even rescues. You produced them, you either keep them or find a home for them yourself. Now you can see what you produce and to better screen your potential customers. Or not produce so many puppies.

I can't believe your own son gave up his dog. I have had dogs since I left home at 18 yrs old and have NEVER moved somewhere where I couldn't have my dogs with me.

I hear of lots of people wanting German Shepherds, but after getting their adoption application, I end up turning down more than I accept as adopters.

I cannot help you out.

Sincerely, Stephanie

does sound like she is looking to take the easy way out and dump problems off on someone else.

that said, many rescue's in my state do have a seperate page on their websites for dogs that are either being placed by their breeders, or owner referals.

but just from this forum alone, I do know you are swamped with dogs, and have to turn dogs away on a daily basis and I do understand your frustration with breeders.  these 2 dogs are not in a dire situation, you need to concentrate on the dogs who are desperate.  and this person should understand that, if not, you are right, she should not be breeding as much.

I have an open door policy for every pup I've produced.  every breeder should.

Thanks guys and gal breeders for understanding.

When I was in Fresno,  California, last week, I was sick, there were 8 PUREBRED GSD's in there all on death row, that I couldn't do anything about. One was a pregnant female, heavy in pupsters...I had no room in my truck to bring them home to Montana. I had too many of my own that I had to take with, to lighten the load for the friend I asked to stay and take care  of my place and the other rescues...while I was gone.

It is sooooo sad out there right now...I am having to turn dogs away like I never have before. And the ones I have in are not moving, partly because I don't get decent applications in, and I would rather keep them than adopt to just anyone out there.

With the economy out there, please breeders, THINK BEFORE YOU BREED ANY MORE LITTERS THIS YEAR....TOO MANY GSD'S AND DOGS IN GENERAL ARE DYING OUT THERE..
THANKS,
STEPH

Steph,
I am in the same situation here in Illinois.
Too many in pounds that have little or no time left.
We can only try to do what we can, but, it is sad knowing that there are GSD's out there that we can't help, not to mention all the others, purebred or mixed breeds.
Keep plodding along like you always have.
Happy Thanksgiving,

But Steph, you can't possibly expect someone to rehome a dog that has problems!!!???!!  I mean, really.  Rescues are where dogs with problems go, to find homes, or be euthanized when no home can be found.  You can't expect a breeder who has produced these dogs to step up to the plate and do the job she's asked you to do, can you?

To just dump your dog because you can't move somewhere with it is cruel, especially when you're talking about older dogs who may not take the change well.

Good luck, Steph,  God Bless you for having such a big heart and trying to do the best you can for so many dogs at once.  This old world is a better place for having you in it.

In all fairness to this breeder:
I did return the email, saying I couldn't put them on my website. Right now it would detract from all the dogs I have to find homes for right now. Also asking what her ID tattoo is etc...
I have gotten several dogs in from a "breeder near Bozeman, MT" and didn't know who it was. Now I can check up on her name below...Steph

" I'm sorry. I was hoping you could post them on your website - that's all I wanted. I have always taken my dogs back and have always rehomed them - not that there have ever been any, but life happens to people and as a responsible breeder, I have to take care of the dogs.

I will pursue other avenues to find homes for these two dogs. If you ever need help from me or have one of my dogs, please contact me immediately. If they're mine, I will always take them and if I can help you with others, I would be happy to do so. I will refer those looking for a GSD to your website in hopes they can give a good dog a forever home.

I hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for all the work you do for these dogs.

Best wishes,
Becky Roeder

It's pretty cold up there to not have a warm loving home.
