Hello ,

I'm new to the GSD breed. I've been having shepherds for the past 3 years, but this is my first time with a long/ plush coat GSD.

I would like some opinions on my 5 month old female, please share if you think she's a LONG COAT , or a PLUSH COAT because I can't tell. Her fur isn't that thick so I'm guessing PLUSH?
I had always thought that she was a long coat, but a breeder told me that she might be a plush.

I would also like some information on the dog shows for LONG COATED shepherds ( I think it's next year Jan. 2011) Are there any shows for PLUSH COATS? Sorry/ Like I said, I'm new.
( Any websites that might lead me to that type of information? )

Thanks in advance for your time and opinions.

She looks like a stock coat to me.  I can see the extra hair around the ears, but the body looks pretty close.  I'm thinking the mane will disappear with age and she'll end up being a regular stock coat.

She looks plush, & has some serious glow-ball eyes! Very cute! jackie harris

how old in the pictures.  I don't think she is a plush coat which has always been explained to me as a "show" coat.  she def. has the ear tufts of a longhair. amd the hair on her back in wavy, I bet you have a longhair.

here's a 4 month old LH I produced, very heavy coated as a pup, just shows the ear tufts at this stage, but her longhair will come back.

To answer your question ( Uber Land ) My female in the picture is 5 months old and in the pictures she was 5 months old.

this is a plush at around 7 months old, not the best picture, but notice how her hair is standoffish?  she has no ear tufts.

I'm sorry but in the picture I can't see how she's a LC.
She's gorgeous, but she looks more like a stock coat to me.
Unless it's just the picture or the view.

I'm not sure about your girl. She's got the tufts in the ears which the coated GSDs have, but her coat is quite close. I would say you're just going to have to give it more time. The SV has recently reinstated the Long coat (with an undercoat only, also called a long stock coat) and have established a separate registry for them.  They will soon have classes for them to be shown, if they don't already. AKC does not offer classes for the long coat and still considers the long coat a fault.

Just wanted to explain to you ( Uber Land ) that I was just stating what I saw in the picture, not trying to pick a fight.

- Some people get offended so I just wanted to let you know before you get upset.

Thanks for the picture and info.
