 Hi All,

Has anybody tried the BioThayne tracking or trailing leads?

I am thinking about buying one but would like to hear your opinions and experiences on wear, weight, handling, and tangle factor.

Thanks for your input,

C

biothane is a great wet weather lead. other than that i dont ever pull it out. it doesnt tangle easily and they dont absorb moisture.

however they are heavy and have a bit of flex to them.

They tend to be a bit heavy if you go over 20'.

find someone in your sar group that has one and see if you like it, same with leather.  Really it comes down to personal preferance.  Personally I like the biothane because it doesn't pick up the thorns and burs that are common to my area.

I use nylon lines for tracking - but if I had to choose between leather and synthetic leather, I'd pick synthetic, though it's heavier - so is leather.  I choose nylon LOL

Hi. I personally will recomend the ASAT 15' lead from Elite-K9 in Puducah.Ky.  Their number is 270-554-5515   www.elite.com   I get All my supplies from them. Absolutely no complaints.....Good Luck

This is the same material that has been used for years...particularly by the Amish as Horse Reins...
It's really great stuff...as compared to Leather...

I do not do SAR but I use ASAT (synthetic leather) for pretty much everything.  I have a nylon lead I like b/c it's lightweight and has knots in all the right places, but my nylon and leather tend to get smelly and nasty fast b/c they are always getting damp.  Also the ASAT will not "catch" on stuff or pick up burrs like the nylon does.

 Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all of your input.

Being a horse person myself Iv'e seen horse equipment made out of this stuff and figured somebody had to be using it for dog applications.

I like the concept of a lead that comes in bright colors, wont get soggy and heavy from rain or dew, wont get covered in burs or snag on thorns and is easy to keep clean.

Since we do wilderness SAR, I will probably get one that is 15'- 20' long. Easier length to handle in forest down fall and river brush.

I found a company on the web K9noz.com that carries a variety of colors and will make custom lengths. He also uses a lock jaw snap on the end. This is a great snap and gets used a lot in horse equipment as well.

Lakewood SAR
I tried to look at the website you recommended and it came up as a legal assistance company.

Thanks Again,

C
