just made a delivery to canada.we went across at detroit and we were treated like common criminals.we had to go to customs and some of the crap they asked were ridicleous to say the least.i do understand the problem with drugs but if i'm not mistaken its from canada to the us not visa versa.be prepared if you go.it took 4 hrs. to accomplish what should have taken 30 min at the most.they put you in a room prior to interriogation and let you sit and sit and sit..coming back was not so bad as i did't have all those dogs to unload(6).they did what i thought was a good job and a lot of the serching could have been prevented if they hah  dogs.i offered to sell them some.

4 hrs. is an awfull long time. I saw a show last week where 2 guys were riding motor  cycles around the world and to cross the border into the Ukraine they were there for 13 hrs.

Yeah. How dare they do their job. Because criminals don't look like you and never use animals as mules.

Sable,

I understand your frustration, however we (average citizens) don't know what happens behind the scenes at our border agencies. Criminals are very well organized and use very clever means to smuggle illegal goods across our borders. I have been pulled over crossing into the US many times and had my vehicle searched and occasionally my belongings (young guy expensive truck). My point is I probably meet a certain criteria that warrants further investigation and this was more than likely the case when you crossed the border. I always remain polite and do what I'm asked. Border guards have a job to do and even if I don't agree with their reasoning it isn't my place to tell them.

FYI cocaine is smuggled into Canada from the US and is traded for Marijuana.

don,i know they were supposing doing their job but i was the only one in there and i counted 4 agents standing and talking and having a good time and this old boy sitting and waiting for nothing.hell they had already searched ever thing before they sent me to customs for the interrogation and for what?i  came back into the us was searched again but not, what i call harassed.one of about a dozen,a young man, experienced with gs d's did help me with my dogs and was courteous towards me.he even inquired about the bloodlines.my point is,you can be nice and show respect until some shows they don't deserve it then drop the hammer.like i said if they are searching for drugs they need dogs.example.the bombs that were headed to the us last week.dogs would have stopped that in its tracks.

I don't think you realize the lengths a drug dealer will go.  They will kidnap a baby, empty their organs and fill them with drugs.  They look like any other sleeping baby.

Fellinher, makes a good point.  They know what to look for.  A young man with an expensive new car does cause notice.  A single woman traveling alone with 6 dogs causes some concern.  Single women usually do not travel alone for pleasure.  Maybe if you had a work visa or some other reasonable explanation, but traveling alone with six dogs would be something a drug dealer would do.  And why wouldnt a drug dealer think that dogs would be the perfect mule?  How would the K9 approach the dogs to search for drugs?

You got sent to secondary.  Be thankful you weren't on the southern border.  There is a check-point 25 miles inside the border ran by the Border Patrol that you have to stop at too.

I know it is a burden, but I'm glad they are beefing up security.  You state you were treated like a common criminal.  What does that entail?  Did they cuff you?  Did they take your belt and shoelaces?

Don,
I married a petite Asian women, but when I was single I didn't date fat chicks. Maybe had a fling when no one was looking. To call me fellinher is derogatory and very misleading.

What you just said FOH is plain rude.  I'd think any chick would be glad you fell off her.

Anyway, Sorry you had a hard time sable.  I find crossing into the U.S. painful too.  A sad sign of the times.

Last time I have went with dogs to Canada is more then 10 years ago. It is interesting to hear that nothing have  changed.  I have traveled with dogs to Canada on several occasion. ( More then 6.) Now if I deliver dogs there I would never drive with them, but I ship them to the client via air. And then I would travel separately. When with dogs I was treated like like a peace of crap every time.  I mean search and do your job, but  my experience was unforgettable negative.  Awful!! I have traveled all over the world and US Canada border was always the most awful experience. I have spend hours being interrogated by multiple agents about my dog or dogs. I am from communist county originally and thus I am used to a lot . But Canadian crossing takes a cake. Every time!  At least that is my experience. I do not dislike Canadians at all,  but the border crossing is a ordeal which I will never repeat again,... with dogs anyway. Never again. It is not worth it. It is shameful.
Prager Hans.
