Hi,

It's probably on here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it so....

Could anyone tell me the dosage used for the SafeGuard goat dewormer for dogs?

Thanks,

Haley

I believe it is 1ml per 25 pounds...

Lief

Canine dosage for fenbendazole (active ingredient in Safeguard/Panacur):
25-50 mg/kg by mouth once a day for 3 to 5 days.

You have to make sure the suspension in the form you are using is the same as the dosage was calculated. Make sure wherever you're getting your dosage info from is intending for you to be using the goat wormer. There are different suspensions available.

It does, however, have a wide safety margin. Still, there are different dosages for different treatments- like giardia, for example.

1 ml = 1 cc so there is quite a variation between Lief's and Jyl's.

Yes, that's why I said what I said. If it's a different suspension (strength, purity, amount of drug in solution), then that affects the dosage dramatically.

Yes, absolutely right Jenn.

I looked at the two of them and thought  "whoa!"

While fenbendazole is quite a mild thing as far as drugs go, I can't help but remind people to be very diligent when doing ANY kind of dosing for their own dogs.

I'm not saying not to do it; I do it myself, w/goat wormer from the feed store rather then spend a fortune on powdered brand name Panacur, but I am super careful to remember the differences when figuring doses.

Do NOT try this w/anything like Ivermectin, etc. You can kill your dog easily, or cause serious neurological problems. DO NOT EVER USE PASTE horse wormer. You have NO IDEA how much of the concentration is at the front of the tube and how much is in the back. W/a horse, it doesn't matter; he gets the whole tube. While it's SUPPOSED to be equally distributed, I wouldn't risk my dog's life on it. Get the liquid, every time.
