The 60's brought about a tremendous change in this country.
Most people are to young to know what really happened and
why. Nixon, Abby Hoffman, and Rock&Roll...
There was 2 news papers in circulation at the time
in the bay Area ...The Free Press and the Berkley Barb.
What made these news papers unique was the fact they used there constitutional
right to print the truth. While the big news papers always came under
censorship of big money, they were free to say what they saw, even if
it was not popular with main stream America.
Full of the f..k word and emotion, I began seeing both sides of the coin.
Two riots on the campus of the University of Santa Babara and Berkley .
Made it clear that there really was a Cossack mentality ,,,And new words
came out of it...Police brutality.
I have worked for the Police and Sheriff department of several large counties.
I and most others who have work there are pro Law enforcement almost
all the time, but I have experienced both sides.
Joe Lewis ( the karate champion) started training College students how to protect them selves
against batons blows to the head and vital parts of there body.
This thread is about the 60's ....what were you doing than??

Moderator comment: No one said we can not have some OT topics. What we do not want is threads to go off course by people hijacking them or changing the topic. In other words stay on topic.

Long hair back then, ...was called your freedom
flag. I remember The Boston riots and the canine units to control
the crowds. While of the dogs we get now are from the old boarder
patrol lines during the cold war and after WW2. Our canine
Crowd control units of the 60's were probably the closest thing that comes
to mind to that type of dog. The Chicago riots, Boston riots,
and the Love in riots in California. I remember the Chief of police had
Nazi memorabilia and German Shepherds in Santa Barbara. At that
time Santa Barbara was very conservative. He would come through
Ilavista with about 10 police cars and canines against a bunch of college
rich kids scared out of their wits.
It was a time you could speak your mind but don't be stupid about it.
Because you can and will get hurt. If you were growing up during that
time it was almost to much to understand....The one thing both sides
did recognize was freedom in this country came at a very high price.
Lets not forget that.
