I found a way to serve pictures from different locations depending on a users preferences without killing the webserver (can be expensive to to a lookup for every single time an image is referenced.
Go to your "Edit profile" and select to get images served from the main server. Need to be logged in for this to work,.

Note that for those not with problems, this will considerably slow down the page load timing.
