Pirates Lair

Regardless of what discipline you train your dog in, Sport, PSD/PPD or just for the Show ring, Professional Trainers and Breeders have one thing in common. A passion to work with dogs, and improve the training techniques used as well as improving the Breed.

The operative word being - Professional.

I think this forum has immense potential for Professionals to share their ideas, techniques and knowledge. And also help educate people who are truly interested in learning, this is a forum that they should feel comfortable in asking questions without fear of ridicule.

Failure to respect each others opinions and responding inappropriately to others comments only deters people from asking questions of the Professionals on this forum.

We complain about “backyard breeders”, “so called dog trainers” etc. Then when someone asks a legitimate question about breeding or training they receive an inappropriate response.

All this does is send those well meaning seekers of information to very people we complain about, who will respond to them politely and continue to stay in business.

Just my opinion for what it’s worth

Kim, don't let Phil get to ya. He's actually a kitten once ya get to know him. He's just mad that the Fokkers are the only ones that hand out 8th place ribbons.

Please do not miss-understand, I was not pointing fingers at any one person. I’m just trying to get everyone away from that very thing. The majority of the people I have conversed with so far are extremely knowledgeable.

Never underestimate what a small group of Professionals working together can accomplish.

           Kim, your quote,,,

"Never underestimate what a small group of Professionals working together can accomplish "

Very true statement, I have spoken personally with some of the professional handler and trainers from the database, they have way more in common then they think....I have never had one speak disrespectfully of another handler or trainer. They may bicker on the threads, but under all that abrasive hostility I think they really like eachother....lol....These professionals were working together and never even knew it...  and they have accomplished a ton for me...... working together....

This is a great post. However, the sarcasm here always seems to leak into any good post where someone asks a question that we've all had at some point in our lives. Those who ask questions are the honest ones and are really in need of help as everyone here has been at some point or another.

Desparaging remarks seem to be the norm. The best trainers, and there are only a handfull worldwide, learned from someone else or screwed up a lot of good dogs along the way. The honest ones will admit to that.

Nobody has a patent on dog training, and some of the methods used to train take the parts out of a really good dog that the owner wants to keep in it. No dogs are permanent residents at the schutzhund field.

If it can't be done here find or start another forum where the BS can be controllled. I'll be more than happy to join.
