I just read a post on Hips. In this post some of the responses mention the ZW number in regards to hips. What is this and where is it used? I am familiar with A1/A2, B1/B2, and so on but have not heard about the ZW number before.

HII ZW NUMBER IS NOTHING BUT A BREED ASSESSMENT VALUE NUMBER WHICH IS USUALLY GIVEN FOR SV REGISTERED DOGS...

IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT THE ZW VALUE SHOULD BE SAME FOR THE DOG,IT KEEPS CHANGING ON PAR TO THE TYPE OF PROGENY HE PRODUCES...

IT IS GENERALLY LESS THAN 100 FOR A GOOD DOG...IN GERMANY IF A DOG HAS GOOD PRODUCING ABILITY (LESS NUMBER OF HD  IN PROGRNY) THEY WILL PROVE THEIR MALES BY USING FEMALES HAVING HIGH ZW NUMBER.

SO IN GENERAL ZW NUMBER IS ONE OF THE KEY TOOL TO ERADUCATE HIP DYSPLASIA IT IS CALCULATED FOR A DOG/PUP BY ADDING THE ZW NUMBERS OF SIRE AND DAM AND DIVIDING IT BY 2.

FOR EG:- SIRE = 100 ZW
DAM = 90 ZW
ZW FOR THE PUPPY IS = (100 + 90)/2 = 95.
THE ZW FOR THIS YEAR VA1 OBER VON BADBOLL IS 82.
