sorry to ask a redundant question but I searched specifically for an answer on this site but found none! I understand that heat cycles occur about twice a year! Are the heat cycles  accurate in frequency or can they vary in frequency! Example! My girl was born last day of the year! Her cycles have been almost accurate by about two weeks! However this cycle has started and is about two months early!  any thoughts or would you relate similar experiences! Thanks everybody!

My dogs cycles vary widely.  Some go 7 months between and I have one that is 3 months.

Regularly is 6 months...not exactly every six months due to : weather , other females in heat in close proximity , how long mom stayed with pups from prior cycle , hormones , health ,etc

I was a bit confused since her cycle should be almost in the dead of winter and  in June if  I use the 6 month frequency! about 2 weeks ago she started loosing her coat but I says to me oh  but she is not due for at least  3 months!  so I think she looses coat due to  weather change but noticed spotting yesterday Well now it is all crystal clear! Thanks a lot you all!

It's probably nothing but any time I see a bitch with what appears to be an abnormal heat cycle, I advise taking her to the vet to rule out pyometra just in case.

i would advise you to wait till 2 years to breed your girl, she is still too young.

my female has always never had two cycles the same hers were always 6-8 months and has had a split cycle too. and then i have a another female that right on at 5 months every time, i really feel it depends on the female, i did ask my vet and they say if it does take more than 10 months than a thyroid check is due. my 5 year old girl has not had a cycle in 8 months, i wonder if she is done.???????????

My  4 mo cycle girl had a split heat 2 years ago & I haven't been able to get her bred since.  =(   Had her checked they said she needs to have a longer cycle that her uterine wall is not thick enough to conceive.  Of course they wanted to put her on steroids to prolong her cycle, but I say, she is done.  So I made an appt to get her spayed.

after  my  dog had her split cycle  the 2nd time in is the true cycle , i did breed her and she did have puppies, so i think it the timing.. but now she has not had a cycle for 8 months. if it more than a year its time for test. she has always been long cycles. up to 8 months, but i also  would say her age may have something to do with it too she is 5 now. she has only had a few litters.
