Hello out there. I'm hoping to find out how long the German AD Prüfung is? Can anyone help? Thanx in advance.

The total distance - 20 km. Average speed 12-15 km per hour. The first break after first 8 km, after the next 7 km - the second break 20 min.. After the finish, one more break - 15 minutes. The total time you might calculate yourself. Best regards.

Where are you doing it? In the U.S., it is 12 miles long and generally takes about 2 hours to complete. Most GSDs do well trotting between 7 and 8 miles per hour. One gets a 20 minute break after the first 5 miles, and a second one after the second 5 miles. At this time the judge will check the condition of the dog and especially its paws. Then comes the final two miles. I have seen it where the judge will shorten the distance a bit. In our area, ambient temperatures must be cool and we always conduct it during the evening. Hope this helps.

Thanx u guys. I'm planing to do the AD in Germany and can't seem to find any regulations about distance or so, then I had the brilliant idea to ask here:-) When I come to think about it, how old does the dog have to be? This is really a great place to get questions answered!

In the U.S. and using essentially German rules, I believe the minimum age for an AD is 15 or 16 months. I would have to look it up to be sure, but it is in that range. But you better check in Germany too if that is where you plan to do it. Also, be certain you learn the type of surface your dog will be on and build up to it by working short times on that same surface. If the dog has never been on asphalt or concrete and that was where it was done, it is likely that the dog would develop foot pad injury and be dismissed. Do not take training lightly!!! Good luck.
