I've been expecting my Shiloh female to come into season this month (her second heat, her first was at 9 months.) She bled noticeably with the first heat, but now, although her vulva is quite swollen, she is showing no signs of bleeding. My male is showing no interest in her, either, but he's neutered, so that's not a very reliable indicator. He's getting old, and last time, showed very little interest until she was in standing heat. Then, he made himself so sore and stiff trying to climb aboard, that he couldn't make the jump into my SUV....
Anyone ever had a bitch come in season and NOT bleed?

This may explain more about silent heat, http://www.vetinfo.com/dfemale.html

Given how swollen she is back there, I wouldn't call this a SILENT heat! The hormones are obviously up to SOMETHING!
ETA: Okay, just did another check, and THIS time there was a very faint amount of blood. So, everything's going as it should. I just never had a bitch get this swollen before actually starting to bleed. Should have been more patient!
And lord have mercy on us...her MOTHER is in heat, too; and her father and brother, who live downstairs, are going nuts.
There are times when I'm glad I'm nearly deaf...
Sarah is very glad that we now have appropriate accomodations for an in-season bitch, so her house doesn't get trashed. Last time, she confined Story in the garage, and Nero totally flattened the doorknob with his teeth, trying to get to her!
But the fact Story is in a different building doesn't stop him from sticking his face in Sarah's at night, and waking her up...

And her father has so far destroyed the door to the downstairs apartment, and one of the gates in the dogyard....

I had to leave yesterday because I couldn't stand listening to his howling. Then, my neutered male must have been feeling the hormones too, because he took on a 140 lb. mastiff pup at the dog park!
No more dog park for him!

The mastiff's owner got bitten breaking up the fight, but neither of us knows which dog was responsible. She was VERY VERY understanding. Her 18 mo. old boy was feeling his oats, and wanted to try Ranger on for size. I called Ranger away every time they started to posture, then we let our guard down as we headed for the gate. [sigh]
Yes, I know how some of you feel about dog parks. I swore off them for awhile, but now I live in the country, and there are very few places to socialize the dogs, unless I sign up for dog training cla$$e$....
