I knew a boxer that would shake over a cat, but I do not think he was scared..lol...IMO I think he wanted to attack it.....

Same thing I was thinking. Are you sure he's shaking in fear and not "I really want to kill that thing but my mom/dad won't let me" ???

My crew know that cats are off limits.  The one dog I had who didn't get that message got rehomed.

Ruger1 that sounds like two of my Huskies.  They kind of destroyed a couple of cats who decided to run through our yard one day.  Ever since then one of them literally shakes, and just screams in rage if she's on a leash and sees a cat running while on our walks.  The other one doesn't shake, but he really wants a piece of the cats lol.  When I was at pet co one day,  there were a slew of cats up for adoption, and I had one of the Huskies with me.  Unfortunately people kept trying to pet my dog while he was fixated on the cats and wanting to kill them.  I told them not to pet him, and then I corrected my dog and of course, got some really dirty looks and comments.   Funny how pet co "supports" Cesar Millan, but they act like it's a crime to correct a dog.  Let's just say I don't care to go to pet co often or most any of the pet stores that are somewhat close to here.  I've only been to one Pet Smart where the trainers had decent knowledge,  the other Pet cos and Smarts they were all a big joke.   One of them came up to Buck one time,  had a treat, and told my dog to sit.......Buck just completely turns around and faces the other direction and ignores the guy.  I laughed so hard and walked off and then told Buck to sit and he does it right away.  Just like the woman at Pet co who asked me what my dogs name was,  I said Buck, and she said "Bart?"  I said no, Buck, and spelled it out.  And she kept saying in a cheesy voice, okay Bart!! Bart sit!, Bart sit! And tried to act like she had a treat in her hand.  I looked at her, trying not to laugh, and told her he has no reason to listen to you, he doesn't know or respect you.  She was like ah, that's just those stubborn Huskies they don't listen to anyone.

GSDguy08....Funny story....Why people think that they should come up and give commands to our dogs is kinda silly....

I don't mind the people who gives commands, usually because my dogs will politely give them the finger as they are not their handler.

What makes me uncomfortable are the mental geniuses who think they should come up and start playing ball with my working dogs.  "Oh so cute, let me just grab your toy and throw it for you, would you like that?"

Then they look utterly horrified when I have to verbally land on my dog like a ton of bricks to keep her from either jumping up and slamming into them or biting their hand because they're putting her in drive.

I'd much rather someone try to give my dog an obedience command, then have them grab her toy and play with her.

It really annoys me too if people try to give my dog commands and then when they don't get a response, they act like I have an untrained, disobedient dog and like I have to go and take obedience lessons, when I have been telling them the whole time how wellbehaved and trained my dog is. Oh, and they better not have a toy in their hand!!!
But I have to admit, it is funny if people here me say my german commands and then try to imitate them to my dog.
When she dosen't obey, I always tell them that they have an accent - (since i'm from Germany)!

my 41/2 yr old gsd, while curious about cats/kittens, is also a bit afraid of them. he's large (87lbs & skinny! ), but a big marshmallow. i took him to a feed store where they had kittens in a large cage (up for adoption) at the end of a bagged food aisle. he plastered himself to the bags, got low down, slinking towards the end and the cage. he got to just a few inches from the cage, sniffing and sniffing; the kitties didn't even know he was there, just playing and goofing. until one little bugger saw him, puffed up and ppffffttt! did that funny sideways jump at him and scared the daylights out of angus. he tried to cram himself between a woman and her daughter and hide. they were crouching down, looking at the kitties, thank god, cuz the woman fell over laughing at him. poor guy, his ears went down and he slunk away (after a quick pet from the little girl). he was stalked by a kitten when he was a pup as we went on our walks. i think the kitten just wanted to play, but angus is kind of dopey (very sweet, but dopey)and he worries they're all out to get him. he likes other dogs, he met a kangaroo, he's met horses, miniature horses, cows, chickens (thru a fence), bunnies, both caged and wild. he's just a big lover. tho i have no plans to get a cat or kitten, he would probably "adopt" it after he realized it wouldn't eat him.
