Merck has been sued in relation to allegeations of cancer at the implant site of a pet id chip:

Stay tuned, this issue is developing.  It has not yet been determined how many separate manufacturers there are of these implantable pet chips and how the product varies by quality.

So, would you say that this lawsuit is about microchips potentially causing cancer, or, about a political agenda?

by Aqua on 14 October 2010 - 12:10

It is important to note that Merck & Co. did not manufacture or distribute this or any other microchips. The chip was manufactured by Digital Angel (formerly Destron-Fearing) which was a production facility associated with Schering-Plough. Schering-Plough has recently been acquired by Merck & Co., hence the lawsuit against Merck.

Similar suits have been brought up before. There has never, as I'm aware of, been a case proven to be associated with the microchip. Coincidentally, the site is also the common injection site for vaccinations..........known to cause tumors.

Does anybody here has an experience with chip causing cancer in their dog?

Yes, that's what I'm familiar with as well, which is where the vaccine connection comes in. Cats are more likely to develop sarcomas from vaccines than dogs, and it is thought that the chip implant site is purely coincidental, and the tumors are truly a result of the vaccines. I don't remember the odds, but they were crazy low...like one in 15000 or something.
