I have a bag that is in the group of recalls, but we live an hour away from the store where I bought it. I won't be able to go there until the weekend.
I just opened the bag last week, so have fed only about 4 meals out of it. I fed a raw chicken quarter last night. The best food I can get within driving distance before the weekend is Diamond, and I don't really want to be switching around right now.
How bad is the problem with the Blue Buffalo? Would a couple more meals hurt? Or should I feed all raw for a few days? I worry the sudden change will give her diarrhea. I could give chicken quarters, cottage cheese, yoghurt, eggs, I think I have beef ribs too.

I read it was a toxic level of Vitamin D?? I would not feed it. Drop it and feed raw totally. Much safer and I would not feed too much cottage cheese, yogart, etc at the same time. Make sure you have her proportions correct and don't overfeed her. She will be fine. Leg quarters are good with a scoop of yogart. Beef ribs are good also, watch her with bones and pick up bones after she eats all the meat or if she eats them that's ok also. Mine usually don't eat all bones totally so I dispose of leftovers. An egg 2 times per week is adquate; cottage cheese scoop 2 times per week is adequate and yogart (a dollop) or a heaping tablespoon everyday is good. Depending on how big the beef ribs are I would give her may 2 or 3 at a time; be sure and watch with all bones. If you feel compelled to feed carbs you can cook her up some rice, pasta, oatmeal (I use steel cut oats) or the real oats, not that mushy stuff. You can add some vegetables if you want or not.
PS The above is way better than dog food anyway. If you keep her on raw totally you will need to expand the horizons; but for now the leg quarters and beef ribs are great. Best of luck Nanci

I dont know if a few days would be an issue but read the link above from researchers and try to make an informed decision based on the facts below is a link from Blue buffalo but would expect all the facts to be present. I feed blue buffalo but not ones recalled but still not happy. What are you going to do going forward Jayne?

I would call Blue Buffalo and ask them if it is safe for you to feed it to your dogs for a few days.

I fed her raw for the past two nights. (Usually I only feed raw every 3rd day at most; I don't want to get into the whole debate over raw vs. kibble, but at least for me and our situation, this seems like the best choice. She had diarrhea this morning, not sure if that's related to what she ate last night or what.)
I called the company, and couldn't get through to a real person but I left messages on every single menu option. To my surprise, I actually got a return phone call! The woman was extremely nice, and she overnighted a bag to me since it is so difficult for me to get to a store to exchange the food. The bag arrived today.
I am extremely impressed with the service. She didn't even have any of the food where she was, so she actually drove to a PetSmart and bought the bag and mailed it to me!

Glad to her they did that for you. As a fellow blue buffalo feeder I am curious if you are going to continue with them or not? I think I am until I go 100% raw. Oh yeah hope you dont have any issues with your dog but sounds to be ok.

Well, until the recall I've liked Blue Buffalo better than Diamond or ... Eagle Holistic (I think). Until recently, I would almost always add something to it, like a dollop of yoghurt, or cottage cheese, or any healthy leftovers from dinner, or a weekly egg. Every third meal was raw, usually a chicken quarter. From what I've read, you don't have to worry too much about balancing stuff if it's 1/3 or less, and chicken quarters are a pretty good ratio of meat/fat/bone. I've been getting them from Walmart, and it's cheaper than dog food, but I think they add something that gives her loose stools. (Anyone else have that problem?)
Lately I've been giving straight kibble because I had to board her a couple times and didn't want her refusing to eat the kibble. I think I'll go back to what I was doing before, with the Blue Buffalo. I don't want to switch kibble on her right now.
Reggie, are you thinking of switching? How has Blue Buffalo been working for you, apart from the recall?
