For everyday use of holding tags, which do prefer and why (buckle or snap collar)?

I prefer buckle over snap, no contest. I also prefer nylon over leather, for that matter. I've had the plastic snaps break at inoppertune moments.

I've never used metal ones.

I've never had a dog break a nylon collar with metal buckle. I've had dogs break leather collars and plastic snaps. If I'm going to use it for everyday wear -- and in my case tethering because I don't have a fence where I'm currently stationed -- I want to be sure it won't fail and let my dog loose without ID.

I too have always preferred buckle collars over snap because I never wanted the snap to fail and my dog to get loose without id.  Also, I find the snap has a tendency to loosen over time.

The reason I ask is because I read an article where someone said their dog's lower jaw got caught up in  another dog's collar and they could not get it off so they had to cut it off.  Since then they've used snap for the ease of removing in case of emergency.  I was just wandering what most experience people on here use.

Fur savers, Herm Sprunger. My dogs don,t wear tags. Any time there in public it,s a fursaver and pinch.

My dogs don't wear strap or buckle collars...except when doing bite-work...In public they only wear fur savers...very seldom a prong collar in public...
I do use the snap collars on my very young puppies...only for the sake of convience...When they get older and start to do bite-work then it's the buckle agitation collar...
My dogs don't ever wear their tags...and I never have to worry about them leaving the property...I've got 18 acres that's all fenced in...

I use various collars depending on the occasion.

I keep my dog tags on a leash that I keep in the car.

For pups I use snap collars up to around 6 months of age. Afterwards I use Herm Springer fursaver. I always have 2 tags on collars and never experienced anything negative, but my dogs are never unattended, unless crated.  The dogs don't wear a collar when crated. For competition I use another fursaver without the tags, of course.

Most Of my dogs don't wear collars... I've a large fenced yard where they can run durring the day if I'm home. I made a change when I got Ikon... he's jett black... and runs like the wind.  If he ever got out of the yard he'd run right down the middle of the road in the black of the night.  He wears a specially purchased Buckle collar with reflective tape and tags 24-7. The others are collared with snap collars when we go out in the car.  Snaps incase there's an accident with the dogs playing and needing quick release.  When training I use chain collars...

Several years ago I was walking a new dog on a snap collar, dog lunged and it broke, hard plastic snap cracked and the dog got away, I had to chase him down the street.  Had the same thing happen once with cheap D-ring on a leather collar with a strong puller.  Can't tether a dog on a bad collar or accidents happen.  I will never use or sell snap collars, only buckle collars because the snaps can fail.  I like rolled leather collars.
