I'm not sure if the owner of Bella will read this.  My neighbor called me yesterday evening to inform me of my dog Kloe eating rat poisoning.  He plays ball with her daily.  While retrieving her ball she was attracted to the smell of the poison and consumed it.  He was not sure as to the amount but was sure it was not much.  We watched her for some time and she appeared fine. My neighbor was certain Kloe would be fine because she was eating, drinking and playing.  I was not so sure.... once I got home I searched "Bar Bait Rat Poison and dog consumption".  Bella's sad story informed me as to how dangerous this product is.  I phoned the emergency ER and was encouraged to come in.  Kloe is now on vit. K for four weeks.  I will still need to monitor Kloe for bleeding (red spots on gums, red spots on belly and inside of ears).  If this is present then Kloe may require a higher dose of vit. K.  Thank you so much for telling Bella's story....she saved Kloe's life.  Sorry for your loss.

Thank you for your support.  I really wish home owners would stop using poison.  I've learned so much about this product and others like it.  Once the rat dies....what happens to all of the animals eating the dead rat....  I'm really bothered by all of the information i've read.  Again ...Thank you.  stacie

I am posting a link to the original story, which is now too old to bump, in the hopes it might save yet another dog's life.  I THINK Bella was a Shiloh Shepherd, as I originally found the story on the ISSR forum.

I will post there to let them know Bella's death saved another dog's life.

Bella is not the first dog I've heard of that fell victim to rat poison. Let's hope her story will remind us all of the symptoms, and to be on our guard.

Stacie, I am SO glad you found that link in time!
